North Highlands-Antelope
Date: March 8, 2000
On March 8 over a dozen people participated in a community workshop
at the North Highlands branch library to have input into the library master
planning process. There were participants from two branches. They worked
as members of two planning teams. The teams mapped their communities and
the role of their libraries, imagined the type of services and place the
library would be in 20 years, identified their immediate needs, and potential
community partners.

Workshop Summary
The participants consider their branch libraries in high growth areas,
with younger and more diverse populations. The participants foresee their
branches providing access to technology and partnering with schools to
provide programs such as literacy classes. The first steps towards accomplishing
their visions included adding new materials and finding additional funding
resources. Their immediate needs included adding hours, staff and program
budgets. Their partnerships for their libraries included school districts
business partners, nonprofit community organizations and library friends.
