Located in the northwest corner of Newton, Massachusetts, Auburndale was a sparsely settled farming region until the middle of the 19th century. The Boston and Albany Railroad, which passed through Newton to Worcester in 1837, reshaped Auburndale's destiny.

Wonderful postcard recently acquired by your Webmaster.  Canoeing was really big at that time with thousands of canoes residing in the various boathouses in Auburndale and across the river in Weston.  See the page about Norumbega and the Riverside Recreation
