Preface

With the advent of Hurricane Katrina now more than ever communities throughout the USA must be aware of the possibility of sudden and devastating effects nature can have upon our life. If you reside within an area that is prone to flooding, hurricanes, tornadoes, earth quakes, there is hope that your local government all ready has developed a master plan to address these issues. Community based groups and or associations are an excellent way to share concerns and gain the information you need to make prudent decisions about where to live. Under the Freedom of Information Act you have the right to ask your local officials about these concerns, and to view your communities master plan of development.

The residents of Mulberry Street in Trenton, New Jersey for example lived with flooding issues for over 60 years before the Federal Mitigation was brought into play. Although the residents up until that event were woefully not prepared to deal with the mitigation process. What our history does show is how we all came together in peace and fellowship to face the mitigation, that ultimately ended with the equitable buy-outs of homes and relocation of families.

Residents of New Orleans would more than likely agree that without knowledge of how to acquire aid, aid often is not delivered! In these times we should not rely upon our government to fix all of our problems, instead through our own fellowship with our neighbors we should share our concerns not only of environmental issues, but those of our own safety as well.

Below listed as they occurred is the history of the plight of the residents of Mulberry Street in Trenton, New Jersey.
