Creek

It's that time of year again!

So close yet so far MSA struggles with the final yard!

Tensions rise along with flood waters!

MSA weathers the storms while the bureaucracy of government crawls towards settlement. Mulberry Street residents know that salvation awaits as this Mitigation that started in 1999 drags towards an end.

For owner/occupants of Mulberry Street spring time is not about a renewal of life. But the fear of yet another loss. Picture one above is the view most Mulberry Street residents woke up to on March 30th, 2001. By mid-morning picture 2 shows the creek rising still, at this point owner/occupants were pumping water from their basements.

By the afternoon picture 3 shows the creek finally cresting as sub pumps in basements struggle to keep the waters at bay from the run off.

Picture 4 shows the creek cresting about a foot and a half above flood stage. While another storm from the midwest is due to come this Sunday residents are concerned that with an all ready saturated ground the water from a sudden a down pour could cause a flash flooding of a greater magnititude.

Battle weary plus armed with knowledge that no real flood prevention was ever in the works. Owner/occupants hope in phase 2 that buy out offers when finalized will put an end to false hope of meaningful flood prevention and allow them to move out of harms way.

The park they plan on making of our homes will look like the pictures above where foot paths and trails will be underwater in spring and hurricane season. Yet it would had been a plus for Trenton if the government along with citizens could had collaborated more. Safe homes with a park surrounding them would had turned homes in a flood plane into prime real estate. Adding to the ratables this City so desperately needs. Instead environmental issues now are late in being addressed here and the best they can do is offer flood victims a way out.
