The Flood that never made the News

The 3 photos pictured above are of a flood that occurred in Aug of 1990. This was in a time when there was no talk of MSA or Mitigation. A time when Mulberry Street owner/occupants in the dead of night were alerted by the sound of their pumps kicking in as shown on far right above.

A time when stepping out upon your front porch one viewed the scene as shown in picture above on far left. Instead of seeing Mulberry Street all one saw was the Assunpink Creek where neighbors hurried to moved their vehicles out of flood waters. As street lights shown reflected upon the murky waters of the Assunpink Creek.

The center picture above shows 59 Mulberry Street. As you can see the water was all ready creeping its way up to the first step of their porch. By day light the morning rush hour traffic was unaffected as the waters had receded. This was what it was like awaiting the meaningful flood prevention that they told to us was on its way. Over 30 years and 30 years of rebuilding now comes to an end. Far cheaper to remove the Assunpink Creek victims rather than address the issue.

MSA has secured a Company that shall be preparing counter-offers to present to the City's rejected initial buy out offers. We are working as quickly as we can for we know that time is against us weather wise as well as political wise. To help the City move forward in this now 2 year old Mitigation.

Mulberry Street Association is proud and honored to accept the Kiwanis Club invitation to attend "Kiwanis Club 28th Annual Police Officer of the Year Dinner". Which shall be held May 16,2001. MSA feels this is our way of showing our appreciation to the Police Department for their outstanding job in protecting us and our property in times of flood events.
