July MSA's Joy & Sorrow

Mulberry Street Association is joyful that our voices were heard by our City Council and prompt action was taken to address our issues. Phase One properties that were opened and used for illegal activites are secure for the time being. The over growth that had been not only a health issue, but used as cover by those bent upon illegal activies is being addressed.

MSA is also joyful we had submitted our counter-offers for acquisition in a timely manner that will aid in the City's deadline to comply with this Mitigation. But our joys were short lived.

Aunt Sis&Mayor

MSA wishes to publicily thank Mayor Palmer shown above with Ozzalee Jackson of 43 Mulberry Street, for taking time out of his schedule to console Mrs. Jackson. Mrs. Ozzalee Jackson earlier this month found out that her home was upon City Council's docket for acquisition. The problem was she found that her home was bought by Mr. David Taplin who acquired her debt from Ocwen Federal Bank, without her knowledge of the acquisition.

MSA wasted no time in delaying the reading of her Ordinance of acquisition. And helping Mrs. Jackson gather the information she needed to provide to her attorney. It appears that Mrs. Jackson had become a victim of predatory lending practices. Amidst the personal loss of floods, Mrs. Jackson had taken a loan to make repairs, after sometime she became confused as to where to send her payments since her indebtiness had changed hands to lenders she was not familar with. Before she realized it she was told by MSA and shown that her property was upon City Council's docket for acquisition to another owner Mr. David Taplin whom Mrs. Jackson had never met.

MSA again at City Council fought and won time for Mrs. Jackson to acquire an attorney to take this matter before a Court of Law to settle this ownership issue. In the mean while Mr. Taplin is only concerned with acquiring the buy-out figure of $48,000.00 to show what a sharp investor he is by acquiring a property for $14,000.00 some odd dollars that would had given him a $34,000.00 profit.

Through MSA action in showing City Council that possible predatory lending practices are present in this matter. The City has joined us in determining this issue. And again we thank and support Mayor Douglas Palmer in his efforts to draft new local laws limiting abusive lending practices.
