November 2005 Phase 3 of Mitigation no sign in sight!
Phase 3 of Mitigation slips under radar screen!
As the year 2005 draws to a close, this once important project "The Mitigation of
Mulberry Street" no longer captures the public fancy or interest. Although it would
be in the best interest of the public and tax payers of New Jersey to know what happened to
their interest in this project.
The businesses involved in phase 3 of this mitigation all have a vested interest in
making sure this part of mitigation remains as is undone! It's the speculation and
the uncertainty of the facts that eludes our minds. Has the Mayor cut deals with the
businesses? What happened to the Federal money that was put toward this project, where
did it go?
Locally the citizenry recently saw headlines concerning another one of Mayor Palmer's
project go awry. The Columbus School on Brunswick Avenue was found to have asbestos contaminating
the school. The school was deemed unsafe rightfully so and torn down. Mayor Palmer's plan was to
replace the school as part of his revitalization of Trenton, as the school nearly was completed
and millions of dollars spent. It was discovered no one tested the soil which was still heavily
contaminated with asbestos! Another project no one shall ever hear how it was made right.
Where is the accountability? Where does one say with certainty who, what, when and where something
was or was not done? As millions of dollars of spent construction sits idle so too not far away
down the street phase 3 of a mitigation sits idle not completed. The City of Trenton is becoming
the nightmare of revitalization not realized
