Mulberry Street A Community that
Refuses To Go Away!

True to our heritage those of us who have come to make a life upon Mulberry Street, have enjoyed a community with industrial, urban, and park like scenery. A setting that molded and shaped our character as well as our community. A place unlike any other within the City of Trenton.

The above inset picture shows Mulberry St. in 1890 within a picture of Mulberry St. dated 1994. From this we can see that is had always been a community of people who were the back bone of growth and development of our City. It was a precarious balance of business and community interests.

As the years went by and the politics of development raged forth often business won out over the community interests. Business won out to the extent that it had even changed the course of the Assunpink Creek as illustrated above.

To this very day City's philosophy has always been business concern over community. With the thought that if employment opportunity came first the community would develop on its own accord.

In this writers opinion that philosophy is a bit one sided. Perhaps if the City proved that People came first above all else, then business interests would be inclined on its own accord to develop. The balance for to long has been towards business without regard to community. And is why Trenton has difficulty in its revitalization plans and is also why no one wishes to stay in Trenton.
