************************************************************** This file received via e-mail on January 22, 1989 ************************************************************** ********** Disclaimer: ********** The following was put together on my home PC as time allowed over the last couple of weeks. There was much more I could have included, but have tried instead to only touch key points. I have purposely elected to leave out names of people and places. Only where the exact geographic location is necessary to event have I pinpointed a place. These are only a few incidents, both my own and what others have shared in private. To this day, I will not speculate on what happened in 1974. There has never been any history of psychosis in my family, including myself, which includes hallucinations of any kind. I still find my childhood phobias interesting. They came and went, but I still wonder if there is any connection. I was never interested in nor played around with recreational drugs, so I know whatever happened was not drug induced. I have asked the moderator that I not be contacted directly regarding he events mentioned below. You may take this all for as little or much as you wish. If anyone has serious questions, I log into this BBS rather frequently, and when I check in, could route a reply through the moderator. ******************** An incident in 1974: ******************** I have asked the moderator to keep this confidential and any communications can be directed through him, if he's willing. At times the memories re-surface and I'm willing to share a synopsis anonymously. You may think whatever you wish, but the incidents did happen and today I am not willing to speculate on the source of what happened. At this point in time, all that I will say is the following is a part of my past, and I want to keep it that way. I will also include some childhood issues, that may or may not be connected to the incident in 1974. It was mid October 1974 and a friend and I were driving down to Prov- incetown for a weekend. His parents owned a Summer home there and we were going down to close the place up for the Winter. He was working that Friday night and I didn't pick him up at work until about 9:30. We stopped for coffee in Hyannis and neither one of us had been drinking nor did either of us do any recreational drugs. Anyone familiar with the lower Cape knows that route 6 runs right into Provincetown, and his folk's place was beyond the center of town, so we bypassed first exits and took road down past Herring Cove Beach. We reached Provincetown at about 1:30AM on Saturday. Just past the public beach parking lot, there appeared to be up ahead, what we thought was a large pickup truck with bright fog lights, coming off the dunes. We both knew something was wrong, since at that point there was no easy road access from the dune area and the lights appeared to be too high off the road to be a truck. Then lights appeared to bank sharply and between 1000 to 1500 feet head turned to face us head on. I flashed my high beams, still thinking it was a land vehicle and the lights were very bright. I pulled off the road into the sand shoulder, and whatever it was came at us really fast. The next thing we both remember was sitting in the dark in my car, when I went to start the engine, the keys were not in the ignition, so I got out and walked around the car. We both felt disoriented and scared over what had happened. I found the keys in my pants pocket, which bothered me since I never remembered shutting the engine off or removing them from the ignition. At that time I owned a 1972 Ford Pinto that did not have a clock. My friend checked his watch, an Acutron, which had stopped at 1:30AM. I turned on the car radio to check the time, and at the next time check it was about 3:30AM. Neither one of us slept that night and in the morning I noticed three pencil eraser sized red bruises on my chest in a roughly triangular pattern. I mentioned it to my friend who said he had similar marks, plus three more in his groin area. Sat- urday night we both felt sick to our stomachs and he got very sick. We both thought it was a stomach bug or maybe food poisoning. When we returned home, my friend took his watch to be repaired and was told it was unrepairable. The electronics in the watch were totally shot and he was asked if his watch had been exposed to any strong magnetic fields. At the time neither of us thought anything about his watch being unfixable. Also the small reddish spots faded within a few days to brownish patches and the area itched. Within a couple of weeks, the patches were gone. A few weeks later I started having nightmares and when I tried talking with him about it, he refused to discuss anything on the matter further. In the nightmares I could not move and was aware of movement. I was also aware of other people around me, but couldn't see them. These were similar to nightmares I had from the ages of 5 to about 15 years old, where I was immobilized on a table and moving at a high rate of speed. In the dreams I was aware of others in the room, which appeared to be large, cold and metallic. I'd feel something touching me and when I called out asking if anyone was there, nobody ever ans- wered. I'd then wake up in a sweat screaming. These dreams stopped in my late teens and resumed for a couple of years in the late 70's. I have not had any other dreams since, nor has there been any episodes of missing time since the one in 1974. My friend moved to Northern California in 1981 and I did contact him in 1983 a few times. He admitted to having a very strange thing happen while on a camping trip once, where he was awoke by his dog barking at something outside his trailer. He told me about going outside and seeing very bright lights above him. The next thing he knew it was about 90 minutes later and he was standing outside, his rifle was on the ground and he never remembered picking it up. He also told me about having dreams of looking down on his camp trailer from above and seeing his dog running around under him on the ground. The last I heard of him was through a mutual friend who told me he had died of cancer in 1986. ********** Childhood: ********** Whether this has any bearing I do not know, but I have vague memories of being very afraid of certain things, after the age of 5. Even Mom and Dad told me in looking back, that I had some very strange phobias. Although from an early age I loved music and the radio. I became terrified of the large console radio in my parents living room. If my parents took me out to eat, they had to make sure that there was no juke box in the place, because if I saw it, I would totally freak out. Dad told me that around the same time, I became terrified of anything like his power tools or an appliance that made any whirring sound. Before that I followed Dad all around and being in his workshop never had bothered me before. The other thing Mom and Dad thought strange was the sudden terror of doctors; before that they told me that getting shots, etc never even made me whimper. When I was 6, I had my appendix out and "supposedly" Mom told me I was so terrified when they wheeled me into or that it took the whole OR staff to keep me on the table while they put me under. The same thing happened when I had my tonsils out at 7 years old. I have no recollection of any of this, but we were talking on different occasions and my parents said how embarrassing it was. They took me to a shrink and were told that kids often form phobias for no reason and they pass. There was also the case of my imaginary playmates. I have no memory of this but on a few occasions mom told me she asked to meet these little kids who showed up in my room or in the field behind the house. Mom said that after I reported playing with these friends I was usually quite afraid, also had too many nose bleeds and on two occasions bled from one ear. They took me to the doctor, who told them I had probably been playing with a sharp object since he did find scar tissue from a puncture wound high up in my nasal area. He told her there was not too much to worry about because he had seen this in other children. Things were quiet until I was 11 years old. Like all the kids I hung around with, we enjoyed flying scale model planes and rockets, science fiction, and was in a boy scout troop dedicated to ham radio and electronics. Although I enjoyed science fiction, anything pertaining to aliens made me very uncom- fortable. Some friends and I made our usual trip to the Saturday matinee, double dare feature. To this day what happened has me puzzled. The two movies were "The Blob" and "I married a Monster From Outer Space". The Blob was sort of creepy to my young mind, then I married a monster started. There was a scene where a man is driving along and hits someone in the road. He gets out of his car to check and body is gone. Turns around and is grabbed by some alien. Now I had seen many horror movies and at this scene something was triggered that sent me running out of the theater. For a week I could not sleep and kept looking out my bedroom window, looking for something. I never knew what it was, but I was going to be ready. Looking back, this seems sort of strange, why a scene from a movie would trigger that severe a reaction. Again, the reaction faded from my memory. When I was about 17 I had a series of abduction dreams, and after that nothing more. ****************************** Something of interest in 1973: ****************************** My wife and I spent many Saturday nights at a friend and his wife's home. They had one boy, aged 5 at the time and lived in an old colonial house around Groton. I never paid much attention at the time that these things happened, but looking back they seem strange. Twice while at their home, we were shaken by the sound of their son screaming. My friend's wife went upstairs to check on him and called my friend up to see this! They came back down to us both times carrying their son, assuring him it was just a bad nightmare, but on both occasions he had had a severe nose bleed. Their son was frantically telling them about the two little kids who came into his room and hurt him. She asked how he got the nose bleed and he said the kids had put something up his nose. My friend was a gun collector and getting a 38, we went outside to check out the woods and field behind the house. He thought maybe someone had tried breaking in through their son's window and we were both convinced it was a prowler or child molester. Both times their son claimed they were little kids. *********************** A friend's mother 1983: *********************** I was sharing an apartment in the Western Massachusetts area with a friend. House was located near a lake in a wooded area. My roommate's Mom lived about mile from the house. He came from a Fundamentalist Christian family and what his mom told us after dinner I would not expect to come from a born again Christian. We were sitting on her front porch one night and she pointed across the street to where there were lots of other houses, telling us that in the early 50's this was all pasture and farm land. She told us it was during the Korean War, her husband being in Korea at the time in the Army. One night she was woken by their dog barking and had this feeling. Went to the window and saw a large elliptical shaped object hovering low over the pasture across the road. She said that very bright search lights were coming from the object and it appeared to be looking for something. She also said it did not make any noise. This lasted for a couple of minutes and she said it shot up into the sky at a very high speed and disappeared. The next day she told us that there were Army jeeps all over the field and it was cordoned off. She dismissed it as some sort of secret military aircraft test. My roommate's Mom was a very down to earth person, and I would have never expected her to talk about something like that. I asked her today what she felt it was and she admitted it was no type of aircraft she had ever seen and felt it was demonic in nature, which fit more with what I've heard some other born agains attribute to UFO sightings. She didn't want to talk about it any more after that. ******************* More recently 1988: ******************* I was doing volunteer work for a drop-in center for people with aids. There was one client I became friends with since we are both interested in same hobbies. He would also talk about all the medical tests and trials he had gone through and was telling me about a recent MRI scan they did. He had been having trouble with migraines and they wanted to do some brain scans to rule out lesions or tumors. He said the doctor found a couple of small spots high up in the nasal area, but they were ruled out as not contributing to his current problems. This started him talking about his own childhood and a long history of missing time episodes had started when he was 5 and stopped during college. He told me that after a period of missing time, he usually experienced bleeding from the nose or ear and had a lot of very disturbing nightmares. He told me he never discussed these with friends or family for fear of ridicule.
