To each of us there comes a time when we are compelled to seek out, accept, and overcome challenges so that we may expand our traditional zones of comfort and thereby enhance and embrace the excitement of living. Regrettably, the Road Star was sold during November, 2004. But, I loved it while I rode it and I know that I rode it well. It was a great ride. It provided me with a real sense of accomplishment. I'm fairly confident there will be a replacement at some point in the future as there are envelopes that still need expanding!

Me on my Yamaha Road Star Silverado

Photo by brother Jack, November, 2000

Self-portrait of me in a two-place glider on a flight over the Grand Tetons (visible on left of photo under wing). One of the most exciting things I've done! Shortly after this picture was taken I proved to the pilot (the young fellow visible behind me) that I could fly the aircraft, so he let me have the controls the rest of the flight to the airport -- 20 of the most enjoyable minutes of my life! I did great, if I say so myself! The glider was superbly maneuverable; the slightest movement of the stick or rudder pedals resulted in immediate response.

Self-portrait, 1997. Picture taken with Nikon F3 and 20mm Auto-Nikkor, autoexposed, prefocused, and held at arm's length (note my arm holding the camera rising upward in the lower left of the photo).

Teton Aviation advertisement showing the L23 Super Blanik glider on which I flew. And, yes, we did get that close! The apparent distance to the Grand Tetons in the self-portrait is a result of the use of an extreme (20 mm) wide-angle lens.
