On March 24th of 1994, Pirate Jenny played their first show. It was at the Bay State Hotel, in the band's hometown of Northampton, Massachusetts. Singer /guitarists, Aimee Swift and Amy Greene, both graduates of Smith College, had met in Northampton in 1992 through a mutual musician friend. At the time, Swift was managing a local band called Flower-Thief and Greene was finishing up her senior year majoring in music. Both were looking for a musical project to call their own and by the middle of '93, they were working together to start a band. They spent several months writing material, hooked up with a drummer in February of '94... and Pirate Jenny was born.

Pirate Jenny's first drummer moved away in September and the band played with various temporary drummers until they found Jon Carisi. As it turned out, Carisi and Swift had grown up right across the street from each other in New York City. They took this as a sign and they have never regretted it. As of February of 1995, Pirate Jenny had a solid formation. The trio has spent the last two and a half years playing together and developing a band chemistry.

Pirate Jenny released a 7" record and a 3-song cassette on Red Hot Records, the label formed by Swift and Greene to promote the area music scene. They also have a song on the Live in the Living Room compilation cassette put out by Red Hot.
