Appleseed International (1999 - 2004) The travel project, Appleseed was a photo-based effort that included site visits to 40 cities. In Appleseed, 280 large format, color transparency light boxes were produced and distributed to 20 U.S. and 20 international city parks for random passersby to find, keep, and respond to if he or she chose to do so. ![]() Alamo & Costello, Boom Island Park - Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota: June 20-21, 2000 Each artwork was placed in an unpremeditated and democratic manner in a public area for whomever to find. A letter, written in the predominant local language, describing the project and inviting response accompanied each piece. I have tracked the project's development through collecting the responses, creating maps, designing a project book, and corresponding with finders. At the most basic level, Appleseed was designed to function as an art-based social experiment that looks at the function of a simple gesture in a rapidly changing world. ![]() Alamo & Costello, Major's Hill Parc - Ottawa, Ontario: July 16, 2002 More info on Appleseed p3 p4 p5 p6 p7 p8 p9 p10 (page 1 of 10) |
