IMPORTANT NOTICE. With STCBot no longer available to run these tourneys, Hex Tourneys as we’ve known them has come to an end. All results are posted below. It has been a nice run for the last year and a half.
You do have to wonder about some people’s goals in
life: jantonio(90): Russ, I've been 3/3
in the hexes (3 3rd places) and I don't see my handle mentioned at the
beginning of the web page.
"Viking never won anything in his life, but he wants his name in lights. Here's the light bulb, here's the pull switch. Everyone yank his chain."
Note.—Viking99 has been deeply touched by this little bit of humor. So far he has not asked me to remove it. J
Oh, my. Insecurity is running rampant: Kolibri(90):
Can you mention me too please ? :) *beg*
And the beat
goes on:
SeniorCitizen
(13:31 22-Jul-03 EDT): how frequently are the hex results updated? I am just dying to see my name in
"lights"!
rgadoury
(13:44 22-Jul-03 EDT): And just what tournament was that? J
SeniorCitizen
(15:25 22-Jul-03 EDT): the one in which the old crock beat up all of the
youngsters. JJ (hex13d)

Hex help
Note.--Listed near the bottom are some FAQ's about hexes. (My thanks to Chuck Koepplin)
Hex tourneys are 6-player tourneys with a single round robin schedule of 5 games in approximately 5 weeks.
Time controls, 45 30 (45 min start) (30 sec increment)
To enter, type "tell stcbot <hex name> join"
These tourneys are managed by rgadoury.
Most hexes are held in multiples of 100 rating points, starting with a base rating at a whole thousand. For example, Hex14a was for ratings from 1400 to 1499. Only players whose ratings fall in that range can enter that hex. Once you enter, your rating is "frozen" at that level until the tourney is played. Thus, it is possible to be entered in more than one hex range at a time, depending on your rating fluctuation.
Hexes with higher and lower ratings will be formed on request. Additional hexes in the same rating range will be added as soon as a current one is filled. The ending letter will increase by one letter. E.G. Hex14a, hex14b
Schedule: One game per week, from Monday to Sunday. When a hex is filled it will start automatically. The first round of play will run to the end of the second Sunday.
Rounds 2-5 will be played between Monday morning and the following Sunday night, thus allowing a full weekend for you to schedule a round.
Because of the tight one-week playing schedule, players whose time is very limited or who anticipate having problems scheduling games should not enter.
Players make arrangements for their games via the offertime command on STCBot, and with messages as needed.
Rated games. Players must be members of STC group. rgadoury is manager and should be consulted when problems arise.
Forfeits: Forfeits will be assigned for not showing up within 15 minutes of the agreed upon time and for failure to make the effort to schedule games. Forfeits will affect a player's reliability rating.
Hex tourneys are run by STCbot. Should a game be adjourned because of a disconnection or other problem, remember, YOU MUST RESTART YOUR GAME with the Startnow
command. Both players type: "tell stcbot hex14a startnow" Do NOT use the ICC "resume" command.
STCBot HEX tournament beginner FAQ's.
How do I join?
Join by "tell stcbot <hex name> join". If you don't know of the appropriate tournament, message rgadoury with your interest. He has web pages for this.
After I am assigned to a tournament, how do I know whom to play?
The STCBot will inform you of your next match at your first logon to ICC during the day. It repeats it once a day only. If you have messmail set to 1, you will get the mail once a day also.
After I am assigned to a tournament, how do I schedule a game?
Via tells to the stcbot.
You offer times by: t stcbot <hexname> offert thu 18:00 (the bot knows who you play. (See bot help offertime for more info)
Your opponent offers times by: the same way
You decline times by: declinetime (see bot help command)
You offer new times by: the same way
You accept times by: matching your opponent's offer with same day and time (expressed in your time zone, just the way you see the offer).
How do I start a game at the correct time?
The bot starts it for you, by posting the challenge. All you have to do is accept it.
Do I need to send results to the tournament director?
No. The STCBot knows all!
What is the time used by the STCBot?
In all communications with you, the bot will use your local time
(providing you are not traveling). For example, if you desire to play at
7PM your local time with a player from Malaysia, he will see his local time
and you will see yours. You may request Tuesday 1AM and he will see
Wednesday 1 AM.
Question: How do I monitor what has happened in the tournament?
Answer: There are several commands you can experiment with:
t stcbot <hex name> p (for players), listpairing (for schedule and
who plays which color) grid (for cross table results)
Question: If I can only play during specific hours, should I join?
Answer: With international play, you must be somewhat flexible.
Question: How do I see the current results?
Answer: Tell STCBOT (tournament ID) P
Question: How do I see scheduled/non-scheduled hex tournament games?
Answer: Tell STCBOT (tournament ID) status
Question: What is proper etiquette for accepting/declining offer times?
Answer: Very simple. Communicate to the best of your ability. Adding
your opponent to your notify list is always a good idea.
