Cube Log

So far I only have averages, but soon I will add record single solves.

I took averages in July differently than usual. The amount of times vary: sometimes it's and average of 5 and other times 3. I don't have the exact dates recorded but I will do my best to have them in chronological order.

July

Early July: 110 (150) 130 122 (88) = 120 seconds.

Mid-July: 105 100 (113) 91 (75) 95 75 => 93.2 + .5 = 93.7 seconds. Notice how the first 3 times are in the 100's and then they suddenly decrease. That's becasue I lubricated my cube for the FIRST time EVER after the 3rd time and finished the average. You can easily see the instant improvements I made. From then on, my times went down and down... You can see how my times improved by so much almost instantly!

A few days later: 75 75 75 74 (77) (65) 74 => 74.6 + .5 = 75.1 seconds. Now you can see an improvement in my times as I get mainly into the 70's and 60's. Also notice in this average how consistent the times were. For an average that's in this time range or higher, these would be considered extremely consistent.

August

I took these averages right after camp ended. Just before the last week of camp, I was getting about 70 seconds.

This is what I got right after camp:10th: 54.5 seconds: 49 58 64 58 (45) 56 (65) 46 47 55 52 55

Then, later in the month, after learning the F2L in only 8 days, I took a few weeks off from timing myself to get used to the new method. By this time I solved from the bottom up, and I did a 3-look LL. One day when my dad chose to time me, I accepted and I started solving. I got 45. Then I got a 41. I started a new average and saw how the Fridrich method was paying off in the first couple weeks:

About the 24th (exactly one year before the WC!): 47.1 seconds: (35) 46 50 51 (55) 44 39 47 45 50 49 45

The same day: 45.8 seconds: (39) 40 41 42 44 47 51 52 (54) 50 41 45

Again, the same day: 40.6 seconds: 38 42 (32) 45 35 44 43 (54) 32 48 39 35

So in one month, I switched methods, improved 30 seconds, and started taking averages the way most others take averages (unless you use a more accurate stopwatch).

September

13th: 39.3 seconds: 39 37 36 40 35 (45) 35 45 40 39 42 (28)

19th: 33.6 seconds: 35 30 34 33 32 32 30 (35) 28 35 (26) 32

By the time September ended I was doing a full Fridrich method- bottom to top, F2L, 2-look LL.

October

6th: 27.9 seconds: 25 26 29 30 (32) 29 28 (23) 26 29 26 26

January

1st: 20.2 seconds: 21 18 18 22 22 21 18 (17) 19 (22) 20 18

February

2nd: 17.6 seconds: (15) 19 17 18 18 (20) 15 18 16 17 17 16

March

none - During late February, March, and early April I took a break from cubing. I wasn't thinking of it as taking a break, but surprisingly enough (at least for me) I was actaully putting down the cube to move on to 3D Imaging/Animation. I first got interested in 2002, but never really got so much into it. Now I really got into in a way that I would only solve the cube about three to five times per week. I finally realized I had a competition to attend in August so I stopped all my 3D projects and picked up the cube again. I guess these couple months off acted as a nice break from cubing.

April

none - I had to practice more now that I took a long break. I did get one average during this month of 19.5 seconds but that was it. I was hoping for a new average soon...

May

11th: 17.4 seconds: (15) 16 16 17 18 18 16 15 17 19 (19) 17

31st: 17.2 seconds: 16 16 (18) 17 18 18 (15) 17 15 16 18 16 Very consistent, notice how the range is only 3 seconds.

June

8th: 16.8 seconds: (14) 17 16 17 15 (18) 18 16 16 17 15 16

24th: 16.7 seconds: 14 18 14 16 17 18 16 16 17 16 (13) (18)

July

5th: 16.6 seconds: 17 19 (21) (12) 16 16 17 16 18 15 13 14

13th: 16.3 seconds: 15 14 17 (21) (13) 16 15 15 18 16 15 17

August

none

September

14th: 16 seconds: 17 15 14 15 15 (20) 16 17 15 16 15 (13)

14th: 15.9 seconds: 14 16 (17) 16 14 16 17 (13) 17 15 13 16

21st: 15.7 seconds: (13) 15 15 14 16 (19) 15 15 16 16 16 14

21st: 15.6 seconds: 14 16 14 (20) 15 16 14 16 15 15 16 (13)

21st: 15.5 seconds: 13 14 (19) 14 (12) 15 16 15 16 16 16 15

21st: 15.4 seconds: 14 15 15 15 14 16 16 (18) 16 14 14 (13)

At this point I'm starting to think the true limits of the Fridrich method should be reconsidered and revised because obviously (as several of us have proved) 17 seconds is not fast enough... Maybe around 14.6-15 is the limit.....

Blue indicates my personal best time, and red is my best average.
