SPOUSE'S INTERNATIONAL CULTURAL EXCHANGE PROGRAM

The SpICE Program

TEN TIPS

FOR A SUCCESSFUL

COUNTRY BRIEFING

  1. Doing a country brief is NOT REQUIRED
  2. TIME LIMIT (this is the hard part) No longer than 20 - 30 minutes!
  3. Don't make it too complicated. Just tell us what you like (LOVE) about your country.
  4. It is not acceptable to do a student's (your spouse's) briefing.
  5. It is not necessary to talk in depth about military capabilities, system of government, politics, GNP or other technical (boring) stuff like that.
  6. The members of the SpICE Program want to know about the really important stuff like shopping, cultural traditions, sight seeing, and the natural beauty of our world. Other important things to note are the role of woman in society, educational opportunities and tourism. Our group also wants to know about interesting and entertaining family oriented opportunities that are available around the world.
  7. Handouts are encouraged. These can include tourist information, maps or other materials. Your embassy may have a tourist info center and this may be a good source for information of this type.
  8. Traditional foods and drink from your country are also STRONGLY encouraged! This will provide the most lasting tasty memory for your friends.
  9. A presentation can take the form of a lecture, a video, a Power Point Slide presentation or a narrated photo slide show, books, magazines, or any combination of the above with one exception. Remember the NDU computer system can not and will not access outside sources such as U-Tube.
  10. Doing a country briefing, is a great way to put your country's best foot forward and it will GREATLY enhance your SpICE Program experience. Just tell people what you love about your country but PLEASE REMEMBER THE 20 - 30 MINUTE TIME LIMIT (staying with in the time limit is the hardest part).

Remember to personalize your briefing for extra impact!
