One of Our Own Wins An Award
One of our own in ARES/SKYWARN won a prestigious award this past
Monday. Tony Duarte, N1XRS, Assistant SEMCARES Emergency Coordinator,
and Dartmouth RACES Radio Officer has won the Hiram Maxim Percy Award
for the most outstanding amateur under the age of 21 years old. Tony
will received 1,000 dollars and a trip to the ARRL National Convention.
A hearty thank you once again to all those that wrote letters of
recommendation for this award. Tony is very appreciative of it, and
allows the Greater New Bedford area to be viewed in a very positive
light as far as public service and Amateur Radio goes. For
the national ARRL Bulletin, and national ARRL Letter that mentions Tony
getting the award, check out the following URL's:

and the Hiram Maxim Percy Award Plaque being held by both
Tom and Tony.
Finally, this picture shows Tom Frenaye, K1KI, and Tony Duarte,
N1XRS with Rob Macedo, KD1CY. It was an honor to be in a picture
with Tony as he received this award as it has been a pleasure
to meet someone with Tony skills as an emergency communicator
at such a young age. I was happy to be a part of his experience
of receiving the award that he earned.
Again, special thanks to all that helped out and more details
on the award and the presentation will be seen in this section
of the Eastern Massachusetts ARES/RACES/SKYWARN home page when
its received. Any pictures of Tony receiving the award will be
put on this section of the web page.
