Here is an update on the tentative SKYWARN sites to date:
One site in Western Rhode Island. Talked with Martin Mendelson, N1JMA,
and he will be working on a possible site on the west side of the Bay
with Section Manager Rick Fairweather, K1KYI. Rick stated previously
that he may have a site in mind, and there are some other prospects
that may also be explored. Martin and I will touch base again on this
in early January.
One site in Walpole, MA at the Walpole Town Hall probably in May.
(No Update)
One site in Fitchburg, MA at the Fitchburg Library Auditorium.
(No Update)
One site in Falmouth, MA at the Falmouth Town Hall, possibly
at the time of one of their regular meetings. Per N1SNH, Henry Brown,
Vice President of the Falmouth Amateur Radio Association, this will
be discussed at the FARA Board of Directors meeting in January.
One site in Boston on the campus of Northeastern University.
This will be firmed up when Northeastern starts their next semester
in early January. NUARC, the Northeastern Amateur Radio Club, with
Bill Ricker, N1VUX, Tom Silliman, Tom Alexander, Gene Lunderman and
others within NUARC are working dilligently on this issue.
One site in Chesire county New Hampshire perhaps at the same
site as last year. (No Update)
One site in Hillsborough county New Hampshire. Dave Day, KC1ED, EC for
Hillsborough County discussed this issue via email, and plans are in
the works for a site in Hollis, New Hampshire at the police or fire
department. Confirmation on a date in May and this site should
occur in early January. Thanks to Dave Day, KC1ED, and Bob KD1AW for
their assistance.
One site in Windham County Connecticut to be worked on by Connecticut
Emergency Management. (No Update)
SKYWARN and WX on the local New Bedford Radio Station...
M.L. Baron, KA1WBH, and I we're on the local radio station WBSM AM 1420,
to discuss SKYWARN and weather this past Saturday from 8 AM-10 AM. The
show received quite a few calls, and we have been invited back to do
two shows again in 1997. One on Saturday July 26th, and the other
on Saturday December 13th, both from 8 AM-10 AM.
Last Newsletter for 1996...
This will be the last "official" newsletter of 1996 for Southern New
England. With the ridiculous amount of hours to put in at work, and
family commitments for the holidays, I feel I will be unable during
this period to put out an effective, efficient, and infomrative
newsletter for the region. Any storms that have final reports from
NWS Taunton will be issued once the final public information
statement or equivalent is issued. Anytime reports need to be sent
to NWS Taunton I will issue a "canned" email stating the situation
and reference a new section on my web page to use for further information.
Also, any updates on SKYWARN training will be appended to the list
and sent out when they occur, if it happens prior to the next newsletter.
The next SKYWARN Newsletter will be issued on the weekend of January 4th
and January 5th, 1997.
Thanks to everyone for all of their efforts during 1996. It was a busy
year for SKYWARN and time will tell if our efforts will be tested as
much in 1997 as they were in 1996. Everyone who has assisted in various
weather nets and SKYWARN should be proud of what was done during this
past year. A big THANK YOU to all weather observers as well as coordinators.
MERRY CHRISTMAS, HAPPY NEW YEAR, AND HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO ALL!!!!!
Respectfully Submitted,
Robert Macedo (KD1CY)
