* SKYWARN STRATEGY MEETING Agenda for January 16, 1997...         *

Here is the meeting agenda for the first SKYWARN Strategy Meeting
of 1997, slated for Thursday January 16th, 1997, at the National
Weather Service Forecast Office in Taunton, MA at 6:30 PM.

I.) Changes in the SKYWARN Program at NWS Taunton
   A.) Introduce the additional new Amateur Radio Operators to
       Operate the NWS Station
   B.) Review the new SKYWARN Activation Procedure
   C.) Briefly Outline and set dates for training of operators
       for operation of the NWS Taunton Station
   D.) Briefly review changes in the SKYWARN Document

II.) SKYWARN Training Update
   A.) Review Training Sites Already Confirmed
   B.) Execute plans for SKYWARN Training sites in areas that
       need training via ARES and SKYWARN Coordinators, if not
       already completed.
       1.) Obtain needed sites in Middlesex County if not already
           completed.
       2.) Confirm an additional site in Western Rhode Island
           if not already done so.
       3.) Update information on the SKYWARN site for Windham
           County Ct, being done through CT Emergency Management.
       4.) Any other areas that a need for training exists is
           executed.

III.) SKYWARN Drill for Severe WX Awareness Week 1997
    A.) Obtain a scenario and date for the drill.
    B.) Utilize the drill as a training scenario for new
        SKYWARN nets or areas where SKYWARN has not been
        tested.
    C.) Utilize the drill as a training scenario for
        new operators to go to NWS Taunton.

IV.) Emergency Alert System Effects on the Way Watches/Warnings Are
     Issued by NWS Taunton
     A.) In what ways can we utilize EAS in activation of SKYWARN
         given the fact it uses a "packet" like digital tone.
     B.) The benefits and drawbacks of the EAS system.

V.)  Review of the Severe Weather Events of 1996
     A.) Review SKYWARN's effectiveness throughout the severe
         weather events of 1996.
     B.) Discuss improvements of SKYWARN during these events.

VI.) SET DATE FOR NEXT SKYWARN STRATEGY MEETING AT NWS TAUNTON

Document Changes for the SKYWARN Document due January 11, 1997...

If all coordinators could have additions, deletions or corrections
to there information in the SKYWARN Document and can get me there
information by Saturday January 11th, that would be much appreciated
so that I can have copies of the document made in time for the
meeting. Thanks to all for there assistance.

                         Radio Club.)

Cape Cod and the Isles  (To be confirmed by N1SNH-Henry, VP of the Falmouth
                         Amateur Radio Club.)

SKYWARN Goals for 1997...

I have outlined goals for SKYWARN for 1997 to continue its growth
and its strength in Southern New England. They appear below:

Continue:       Quarterly meetings of Coordinators and contacts of SKYWARN.
Start:          Exploring APRS as an additional option for SKYWARN use.
Start:          Having a SKYWARN drill on a yearly basis.
Start:          Coordinating Southern New England with the Hurricane
                Watch net on HF, 14.325 khz.
Start:          Contacts with other SKYWARN programs to provide for
                information flow to other programs and share ideas.
Continue:       Tapping the influx of new Amatuer Radio Operators
                into SKYWARN to continue the growth of the program.
