Year In Review and SKYWARN 2002 Goals Newsletter Will Be Posted During the Week...

A 2001 Year in Review and SKYWARN 2002 Goals Newsletter will be posted some time
later this week as we prepare once again for another year of winter and summer time
severe weather that may call for SKYWARN Activations. This newsletter will feature
an activation-by-activation high-level summary review from last year along with
Goals for SKYWARN 2002.

Newsletter Dedicated to Emergency Communication and other Training Classes...

This newsletter is dedicated to publicizing and updating training class availability
for various organizations including SKYWARN training for 2002, Red Cross Training,
the return of the Emeregnecy Communications Workshop and an Emergency Management
Training Schedule from the Connecticut ARES Email reflector. As of this newsletter
writing, the MEMA web-site did not have updated training class information for
Massachusetts and when that is available, it will be passed on in a later newsleter.
Hopefully, this newsletter will be a useful resource for those interested in
becoming trained for public service in Emergency Communications for SKYWARN, RACES
and ARES.

SKYWARN Training Update...

This year, the National Weather Service in Taunton, Mass. will launch the most
aggressive training campaign done in several years with 16-20 SKYWARN training
sites across the NWS Taunton County Warning Area. The training session is now
completely in PowerPoint format and will have some repetitive information removed
to make the session between 2.5 and 3 hours and not slightly over 3 hours as in
past years. It will also feature more descriptive slides on what classifies damage
and the differences between 'reportable' damage and 'severe' damage. It will also
feature more recent events that covered a 'smaller' area but were significant in
the areas that it hit and will give spotters a feel for the isolated yet significant
effects of severe weather in Southern New England.

We have two sessions booked and will have at least one other session booked over the
next week. The following are training sites that have officially been scheduled by
NWS Taunton:

04/01/2002 7-10PM	Manchester Community College
Mon. Frederick W. Lowe Jr. Building
				Manchester CT

04/06/2002	Noon-3PM	Town of Southwick Town Hall Offices (Center Auditorium)
Sat. 454 College Highway; Mass. Rte. 10; US Route 202
				Southwick, Massachusetts

Here is an update on other SKYWARN training sites that will be done across the region:

Farmington, Connecticut:

Have a site in Farmington Connecticut at the American Red Cross where the initial date
conflicted with the work schedule of the trainers for SKYWARN. Awaiting a new date for
booking the session. Awaiting Mike, KB1CTC or Jim, KD1LD to confirm the date change.

Danielson, Connecticut:

Site is booked for the month of April. The session will be rescheduled for late May by
Jim, KD1LD.

Warwick and Charlestown, RI:

to us by Glenn Field and Bill Babcock.

Palmer, Mass:

Awaiting Eric Tuller, N1QKO to confirm this site.

Northampton, Mass:

Awaiting Ray Weber to confirm the site. Phone call placed to the town of Northampton,
awaiting the person from the town to call him back.

Walpole, Mass:

Email sent to Roger Turner, W1ZSA, on two dates to fit the training at the Walpole Town
Hall in Walpole, Mass.

There are another 7-9 sites that are in process and as work is done in those areas, all
will be updated through the SKYWARN Newsletter. You can also check the SKYWARN training
schedule link at the following:
