The case contains its original implements: bullet mold, nipple wrench/screw driver, Eley cap tin and powder flask. The original key to the case is present. Six round and one conical .31 caliber lead balls are included.
The revolver is in excellent working order. Frame, barrel, topstrap and butt plate all retain 95%+ original deep blue finish. Some rust spots are present. The cylinder has turned mostly a pleasing brown patina. The walnut grips are better than 95%. All screws and markings are sharp and excellent. The powder flask, bullet mold and nipple wrench/screwdriver are in excellent condition. All are correct for the casing. The case itself is excellent and shows the usual wear spots on the lining from the revolver's high points. There is a hairline age crack in the lid as is common with casings from the pre-civil war period.
The entire outfit is unusually excellent and it is quite rare to find a cased and complete Massachusetts Arms Adams Patent set of this quality and in such a wonderful overall state of preservation. The Adams Patent revolvers differed chiefly from Colt's 1849 Pocket Model in that the cylinder would rotate and the piece would fire as fast as you could pull the trigger. It was an early triumph of the double action revolver concept. Only 4500 were made, and because they could fire so rapidly they were much favored by Civil War soldiers who could afford them. For this reason, they are not often found in excellent condition in their original casing containing all the proper implements.
