You turn the computer on and get a black screen
Check monitor to see that green light (in front) is on to indicate the screen is active.
Check your electrical and cable connections. Make sure they are properly connected to the back of the computer and to the power strip or wall outlet.
Check to see that the surge protector or power strip (if applicable) is turned on.
Check brightness control on monitor.
