This is a not-so-gentle reminder of the importance of knowing ones place. It's not to be taken literally. Instead the notion is that the earth is but a tiny organism within a much larger universe. For all we know, the earth could be a booger picked from god's nose and flung across the room. And all of the life as we know it on this planet are micro-organisms and bacteria living on the booger. Our arrogance likes to believe that we own and dominate the earth and the universe, and that is all there for the plundering. In a world where we meddle with DNA and recreate ecosystems, it's important to reflect upon how awe inspiring the universe is, and exactly how small we are within it. Like a child that must learn that the stove is hot, so mankind must learn when not to meddle.
