Sketch For Summer
Is it magick or is it musick? Vini Reilly and a thousand acoustic
angels dance on the head of a pin and suddenly the air feels light,
the floor covered in gossamer, and it's cool to lean back -- the first
time I heard this track the sun was shining and the birds were
singing, which is really strange because it was the middle of the
night. /CPL

Otis
Steve Cropper once said his guitar never sounded better than when
accompanying Otis Redding's voice. On this standout track, in a
career of standout tracks, Vini's guitar never sounded
better... strange alchemy. /PLS

Instead of crying out in nameless, gazeless wonder for the keys to the
mind that dreamt this beauty, remind yourself that, yet again, Vini
Reilly has suppressed his true self; the metal vandal cursing the face
of unsolicited poetry. Is there such a thing as "Post-Raphaelite"
soul? There is now. /CC

The Together Mix
So Vini's sat in Dry tentatively handing over a mix and apologising
all over the place for its shortcomings but not for its technothrusts
which he says tapped into the energy of the Hac on Wednesday nights.
He shouldn't have apologised. This perfect loopalong acid lullaby
absorbed the Zeitgeist of '88 and dreamt it into his own classic
guitarscape; rising well above the copyist sonic zootique posing
below. This track should never get lost in the sycophantic
backslapping that produces music history... /SK

Additional notes:

Otis Redding was a great soul/r&b singer from the 60s. Like many
legends, he's dead now (died in a plane crash). Yes, "Otis" does have
what seems to be wordless vocal sample of the man himself.

Steve Cropper was the guitarist for the Stax house band, otherwise
known as Booker T & the MGs. Otis Redding was a Stax artist.

Dry is a bar which Factory opened in 1989. Its full title is Dry 201,
and its record number is Fac 201.
