Spartans Take 2nd Place In PCAA Tennis Championships.

Groh Wins The Pennsylvania Collegiate Athletic Association Women’s Tennis Championship.


Reading, Pa. - Northampton Community College freshman Megan Groh defeated Rebekah Reyes of Harrisburg CC 6-0; 6-1 to win the Pennsylvania Collegiate Athletic Association Women’s Singles Championship played at the Hillcrest Racquet Club. While the scores seem to indicate an easy victory, nothing could be farther from the truth. Reyes fought Groh on every point but every time there was a critical point Groh seemed to be able to lift her game to a higher level to secure the victory. Megan plans to return to NCC next year to defend her title. Groh and teammate Eden Fimiano also advanced to the finals in doubles where they were defeated by Liz Clark and Erin Neidig of Harrisburg 6-3, 6-7 (7-3), 7-6 (8-6). Both Groh and Fimiano were named PCAA All State.

In Men's Doubles NCC's Mark Pugliese and Brad Moser advanced to the semi-finals before losing to the eventual champions Tuanah Ly and Kristan Wilson of the Community College of Phildelphia.

In Men's Singles Jonathan Snyder placed 3rd, winning a Bronze Medal. Snyder finished the season with an 11-1 record and was named EPCC All-Conference.

All team members contributed points for the Spartans to secure their 2nd place finish.

Tues. - March 25 - Harrisburg Area CC - 3 pm - Away

Defending Champions Lose Season Opener 4-3

Under very difficult weather conditions the NCC Spartans were defeated in a closely fought match by Harrisburg Community College. In extremely windy conditions the match was decided at #3 singles where Northampton's Brad Moser fell in three hard fought sets to Harrisburg's Anthony Melanchek. Northampton had strong performances from #2 Jon Snyder and #1 Megan Groh to keep the Spartan's in the match. Northampton opened the match winning the doubles point by taking two out of the three doubles matches.

Spartans Get Back on Track

On another very difficult day to play tennis the NCC tennis team got back on the winning track by defeating Bucks County Community College 6-1. The Spartans began the match by sweeping the doubles point and their dominance carried over to singles. In singles Jonathan Snyder and Megan Groh remained undefeated at their respective positions with Marc Pugliese and Cody Ruff also contributing with wins. Brad Moser went three sets before falling at the #3 position.

Spartans Dominate CC of Philadelphia  6-1

The match opened with the Spartans winning the doubles point.  The NCC men split the doubles and the Spartan women won by forfeit to secure the point  The singles match seemed to the spectators much closer than the final score.  The NCC Spartans played a solid tennis match with Mark Pugliese playing well, in a losing effort at the #1 position, against the returning EPCC Champion.  Jonathan Snyder remains undefeated with another strong performance at the #2 position in what turned out to be an excellent match.  Brad Moser #3 and Cody Ruff #4 closed out the scoring at bottom of the lineup with equally strong performances.  Spartan women won by forfeit

NCC Defeats Delaware CC 6-1

The Spartans played some of their best tennis this afternoon by defeating a very solid DCCC team. NCC opened the match taking the doubles point by sweeping Delaware. Marc Pugliese #1 played a spirited match and came away with a hard fought win. Jon Snyder continued undefeated at the #2 position by winning a tough match against a very good player. Cody Ruff had another solid performance in closing out the lineup. The Spartan women won by forfeit.

Northampton's Jonathan Snyder Prevails in Marathon Match But Spartans Suffer a Heatbreaking Loss To Harrisburg CC 4-3

NCC suffered a heartbreaking loss to Harrisburg CC in a match that wasn't settled until the early evening. The Spartans again started the match winning the doubles point by taking two of the three doubles matches. Megan Groh and Eden Fimiano secured the point by holding on and winning in a tie-breaker in a tightly contested match.

The match was taken to another level when the singles began. Both teams seemed, at various points, to have the upper hand only to have it go the other way. The matches of the day were at the #2 and #3 positions. Brad Moser fought valiantly in a three set contest but lost in a tie-breaker in the third set. Jonathan Snyder's match had the fans staying in the stands for over three hours. They were not disappointed. Snyder showed the heart of a lion and refused to settle for less than a victory in an incredibly well played, hard fought match. He remains undefeated at the #2 position.

NCC's Megan Groh remains undefeated in women's singles and she and Eden Fimiano remain undefeated in doubles.

Spartans Play Well in 6-1 Victory Over Bucks CCC

On a beautiful day to play tennis the Spartans played very well to secure their 5th win of the season. Once again NCC opened play by winning the doubles point, taking two of the three doubles matches. The Spartans continued their domination in singles by sweeping five of the six singles matches. Jon Snyder and Megan Groh remain undefeated in singles while Groh & Eden Fimiano, Snyder & Cody Ruff are undefeated in doubles.
