Spartans open Season @ Bucks County Community College

With a 7-0 Victory

The Northampton CC Tennis Team traveled to Bucks CCC to open the 2013 tennis season and came away with a solid victory. The Spartans enter the season with a young and inexperienced team with only Nicole Sharga returning from last year's EPCC championship team. While the Spartans are in a rebuilding stage they have had an excellent Spring in spite of the weather conditions and seemed to handle the cold, windy and generally hostile conditions for today's match better than Bucks.

The Spartans opened the match securing the doubles point by sweeping the three doubles matches. Kyle Manley & Raidy Alvarez def. Mehul Shen 8-1, Geoff Hart & Joel Aranda def. Rohit Samuel & Michael Peacher 8-0 and Nicole Sharga & Ashley Gildner def.Joanna Gocan & Fnu Chime 8-1.

The Spartans continued their domination of Bucks by sweeping all of the singles matches. Manley def. Shen 2-6, 6-3, 7-6 (8-6); Alvarez def. Miller 6-1, 6-0; Hart def. Samuel 6-0, 6-0; Aranda def. Peachey 6-0, 6-1; Sharga def. Gocan 6-1, 6-1; Lucia Montes def. Chime 6-1, 6-1.

Northampton will have a much stiffer test tomorrow when a very good Delaware CCC team comes to the Spartan Courts.

Spartans Defeat Delaware CCC 4-3 In A Tightly Contested Match

On another cold windy afternoon the Northampton CC tennis team started the match with Delaware CCC at 3 pm and emerged four plus hours later with a hard fought win. The victory, which was not decided until the last two matches were completed, could have gone either way and had everyone in suspense until the players came off the court.

The match started with Northampton winning the doubles point, which turned out to be a major factor in their victory. Klye Manley & Geoff Hart (N) lost to Sam Spector & Imade Osifo 8-3; Raidy Alvarez & Joel Aranda (N) defeated Kanan Chu & Nick Sworbo 8-5; Nicole Sharga & Ashley Gildner (N) def. Cassidy Branigan & April Phillips 8-4 to win the doubles point.

With the doubles point in hand the Spartans had to win three of the six singles matches. Delaware won at the #1-2 on the men's side and Joel Aranda & Ashley Gildner won at the #4 and #2 positions for the Spartan's. That is when the match became intense. To win the match the Spartan's had to secure one of the two remaining points and Delaware had to win both. Nicole Sharga #1 and Geoff Hart #3, playing next to each other, had everyone's attention. Both Sharga & Hart lost their first set and Northampton looked to be set up to lose their first match in over two years. Both Northampton players knowing what was on the line played with incredible desire knowing that one of them had to win to secure the victory. Hart finished slightly before Sharga and came away with a 4-6, 6-1, 7-5 victory to officially end the match. Sharga walked off the court fifteen minutes later exhausted, losing her first match as a Spartan, 7-5, 6-7 (9-7), 7-6 (7-2)
