Spartans Let One Get Away
Bucks CC 4 - NCC 3
Newtown Pa., - On a difficult day to play tennis, for a variety of reasons, the Spartans dropped a hard fought match to Bucks CCC.
The morning started on a sad note when less than an hour prior to their departure the team learned of a death in the family of Northampton's Ashley Bennett. The team certainly had Ashley in their thoughts and prayers.
The Team knew without Ashley their task was even more formidable than when playing at full strength. With NCC forced to forfeit women's doubles as well as a women's singles match they had a steep hill to climb against a very good Bucks team. The match, which was played in very windy, difficult conditions, started out with the Spartans taking the doubles point with inspired play from both men's teams. In singles, Adrienne Nenow stepped into the #1 women's position and continued her winning ways by trouncing her opponent 6-3, 6-0. On the men's side the match was decided at the # 3 position with NCC's Bryan Silk succumbing in three sets to Evan Morris, 6-4, 4-6, 7-5. Eric Knauss closed out the scoring for the Spartans by dominating Bucks Christian Haas 6-1, 6-2.
