MAINE LEARNING RESULTS

ECONOMICS

PERSONAL AND CONSUMER ECONOMICS:

Students will understand that economic decisions are based on the availability of resources and the costs and the benefits of choices. Students will be able to:

  1. Conduct a cost benefit analysis of a personal or business decision.
  2. Evaluate different forms of savings and investments for short and long- term returns (e.g., stocks, bonds, and money market funds).
  3. Demonstrate an understanding of credit history and the positive and negative impacts that credit can have on an individual’s financial life.

CAREER PREPARATION: Preparing For the Future.

Students will be knowledgeable about the world of work, explore career options, and relate personal skills, aptitudes, and abilities to future career decisions. Students will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate the leadership and membership skills necessary to succeed as a member of a team.
  2. Analyze skills and abilities required in a variety of career options and relate them to their own skills and abilities. (CP: A1, 2-P. 6)

EDUCATIONAL/CAREER PLANNING AND MANAGEMENT

Guided by self-assessment and personal career interests students will integrate school-and work-based experiences to develop their career goals.

  1. Assess personal, educational, and career skills that are transferable among various jobs. (CP: B3- P. 7)

INTEGRATED AND APPLIED LEARNING

Students will demonstrate how academic knowledge and skills are applied in the workplace and other settings.

  1. Demonstrate an understanding of the integration and application of academic and occupational skills in school learning, work, and personal lives
  2. Use mathematical, scientific, and technological tools to design and apply solutions to a community problem. (CP: C 1, 4- P. 8)

BALANCING RESPONSIBILITIES

Students will acquire and apply skills/concepts required to balance personal, family, community, and work responsibilities.

  1. Demonstrate an ability to manage personal resources (CP: D 4-P. 9)

ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS: Process of Reading

Students will use the skills and strategies of the reading process to comprehend, interpret, evaluate, and appreciate what they have read.

  1. Demonstrate an understanding that reading is gradual process of constructing meaning and revising initial understandings. (ELA: A 1-P.13)

INFORMATIONAL TEXTS

Students will apply reading, listening, and viewing strategies to informational texts across all areas of curriculum.

  1. Use discussions with peers as a way of understanding information(ELA: D 3- P.17)

COMPUTATION

Students will understand and demonstrate computation skills.

  1. Use various techniques to approximate solutions, determine the reasonableness of answers, and justify the results. (M:B 1 – P.42)

DATA ANALYSIS AND STATISTICS

Students will understand and apply concepts of data analysis.

  1. Determine and evaluate the effect of variables on the results of data collection.
  2. Predict and draw conclusions from charts, tables, and graphs that summarize data from practical situations.(M:C 1,2-P.43)

SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY: COMMUNICATION

Students will communicate effectively in the application of science and technology.

  1. Use computers to organize data, generate models, and do research for problem solving. (ST:L 7-P.76)
