CLUB MISSION
Finds like this can still be Found!
OnTarget Metal Detectorist Association's club mission is to introduce people interested in Metal Detecting and Treasure Hunting a starting place to learn more about the hobby. Our club has collectively over 20 years of Metal Detecting and coin collecting experience.
All of us at one time or another have dreamed of finding buried treasure. Some of us do find buried treasure. The difference between dreaming about finding treasure is knowledge. The information contained within our Web page will give you a better understanding of what it takes to be a successful Treasure Hunter.
During the early days of the old BFO type Metal Detectors A Treasure Hunter had to only go to the local park and start pulling Silver Coins out of the ground by the handful. Our club historian Leo Bergeron has been detecting since the late 1970's and has experienced first hand this phenomenon of popping Silver coins out of the ground by the handfuls.
Now however, it is a bit tougher, many parks, and schools have been hunted to death but, not hunted out. A few of these early day Treasure Hunters were careless and damaged many public grounds by leaving unburied holes. Now some of these sites are off limits to us. What our belief is back in the early days of Metal Detecting people dug almost every signal that the machine was indicating. After retrieving the target the Treasure Hunter didn't pay much attention to filling in holes.
Today we know better. Through education and being denied to Detect on once profitable grounds. In Massachusetts there is a large amount of Towns and Municipalities prohibiting private citizens from using Metal Detector's on public land.
Our club with help from other clubs and Organizations such as the FEDERATION Of METAL DETECTING And ARCHEOLOGICAL CLUBS is trying to change the public's negative view of our hobby. With your help through education and perseverance, we may make a difference.
The bottom line is once you are armed with the knowledge of where to go, how to research, how to ask permission to gain access of a land owner and consistently demonstrating proper target retrieval methods. Your success will be measured in some great finds. Most importantly meeting some of the best people around the Treasure Hunter.
Most of us on a personal level has worked hard in promoting a positive public presence when it comes to Metal Detecting and Treasure Hunting. A few Detectorist don't however follow the Metal Detectorist Code of Ethic's and seriously harm what we are trying to achieve.
Most of us wont become rich using our Metal Detectors. Maybe not in a monetary sense. We do benefit by relieving stress, getting exercise and having fun finding a few rings and coins.
OnTarget Metal Detectorist Association has dedicated the last year learning all we can on creating and maintaining our Web site, So we can bring the latest most current information to Treasure Hunters on key points pertaining towards our hobby.
Once you have been bitten buy the Treasure hunting bug our club's mission will be clearly understood. Let's work together to preserve the hobby for future generations so they too can enjoy finding buried treasures.
