Ground Zero performing Shitar songs
(It has been decided that out of respect for the victims of the Sept. 11th tragedy, Mark, Matt and Joe will no longer be known as Ground Zero. This site will be updated to reflect the band's new name shortly.)

Wednesday, Nov 29th, 2000, 9:30 at Doc Watson's in Philadelphia. That's when Shitar songs will be heard at their loudest volumes in history. That's when Ground Zero, a Philadelphia trio featuring Shitar's Matt Gorney and Mark Mistysyn along with drummer Joe Anttell, will perform a one hour set of Shitar in front of a club audience.

Since early 1999, when Gorney and Mistysyn had pulled the plug on their acoustic club tour citing lack of energy as the reason, the two had been on a quest to find a drummer to liven up the performance. That quest lasted until September of 2000 when local hot-shot drummer Joe Anttell successfully auditioned for the part. Anttell had recently parted ways with his old band, The Doughboys. Gorney and Mistysn provided the spark that Anttell needed to revitalize his career. Together the trio will be known as Ground Zero -- named after the track on Shitar's Exactly.

Ground Zero has been rehearsing since the middle of September and have chosen Doc Watson's Pub in center city Philadelphia as the location of their debut. Ground Zero, one of three bands to play that night, will take the stage at 9:30. All are invited.
