The Story of Ram Rod Ale

Many years ago in the time of knights and maidens, a young knight sought the wisdom of a wizard in matters of love, for he knew not all the intricacies of that mystery that to this day still puzzles many, to wit, how to keep lovemaking interesting, exciting and, above all, long-lasting! He asked the wizard how he might preserve his endurance, for he felt confident in his abilities to perform the first two requisites, being a most clever lad. But, it was endurance that eluded him, what with continual jousting and fights to the death with fire-eating dragons. There had to be a way to prolong the most wonderful of acts with his lover, he thought.

The wizard, however, was a man of many talents and his experience of the world was unparalleled. He remembered his days as a youth and of the spring-time when his passions would be aroused by the nymphs of his day. He was also tormented in those days by the same problem the young knight experienced, so he devised a solution, as is the way of young wizards-in-training.

He observed the remarkable ability of local rams in the nearby fields where sheep would graze, to spend all day doing their deed and not tire! As it is the ability of wizards to change form, he changed himself into a ram to live the robust life, as it were. He would see a lovely, lady sheep and exclaim, "Oh, ewe kid!" and proceeded to do what rams do. Well, after a season of being a ram, he returned to his wizardly, human form, now knowing the secret of keeping his engine going.

It wasn't much of a secret because it was so natural. You see, the rams would all hang around their favorite pasture boasting of conquests etc. chewing the local grain, a particular blend of barley, hops and malt. Well it didn't take a rocket scientist, or wizard-in-training to figure this one out. The secret was the BREW! All that needed to be done was to formulate it for human consumption and VOILA! RAM ROD ALE!

Now, the wizard was no dummy. He could see into the future and decided that his heirs should continue the good deed he was about to perform for the young knight...provide him with a six-pack of sustenance, endurance and the nectar of the gods, so to speak. The descendants of the wizard continue to this day to secretly produce the enchanting brew that enabled the knight to RISE to the occasion and keep it up!
