The oldest gay Leather/Levi Clubs have histories going back over 30+ years to the good old-bad old days. They provide brotherhood and fun in ways the "bears" don't. The L/L MC clubs usually have pledging periods or invitational requirements to join, very different from the bear clubs. Don't let the gear and S/M associations put you off! To me, much less than sterotyical motorcycle clubs [there a just a few riding clubs left], the clubs are sorta like a college fraternity in leather, and AMCC is like the old inter-fraternity council [IFC], no matter the vests and patches and pins. AMCC coordinating organisation covers the US from the DC area up to New England and Montreal and into mid-Pennsylvania. Chicagoland clubs participated at the beginning in the late 1960s. As the number of groups grew Chicago and midWest clubs split off and formed the Mid-America Conference. There are also other regional conferences throughout the US operating a little differently from AMCC as they are inclusive of other types of gay social or political organisations and many other unaffiliated clubs due to small size or by choice. My list may alay be a bit out of date; clubs become inactive or leave AMCC because of declining membership. Independents come and go. One of the biggest changes of all is that some clubs around the country began to accept female membership in the early 1990s.
