Great stuff! Bear radio online is a good play to start- not that it is actually limited to "bears". But live is best, so catch Bearapalooza, which was started here by Freddy Freeman and they've done since it at bear events in Philadelphia, Nashville and Seattle [Spring Thaw 2005]. Freddy relsease his long atnticpated disc "Break the Silence" DEC 2006. It is available online at WOOBIEbearmusic which is a good source for other bear's music. In addition to Freddy, you might see at a Bearapalooza my most essential bear singers Martin Swinger and Kendall. Martin SwingerBearNaked is an humorous, touching mini-bear songs collection. His earlier release, "Singin' OUT! has songs for all gay men, not just bears, all with such a soothing, daddy bear voice. He is also known for performance at schools and for family-type gatherings! Kendall is so opposite of Martin in his righteous, manic rage combined with fierce humour [and is a hunky bear besides!] Check out Brooklyn's own bear-rocker, Max Christopher who released "FRESH CHROME" fall 2006.
If "Bears on the Run" various artists get together for a performance, go! Look out for a BEARAPALOOZA concert near you. Best bets are for it now are generally in Nashville and some of the southern/Fl gay campgrounds! It started out an intimate venue in the West Village NYC and I really felt the warmth generated that night in NOV 2002 was an auspcious start of something special. In the last Bearapalooza in NYC Sept 2004 I saw Tommy Johns from Seattle, Martin Swinger, the Bootlickers from Phila, Max Christopher's Circus Maximus, Yolanda & THE PLASTIC FAMILY, Kendall and of course Freddy & the free men. Some of these guys have tracks on the bear tracks compilation CDs. Links to other singers who are musts to check out are Mark Weigle, Ernest Lijoi, Ray MusicBear Baker, and soce "the elemental wizard." Not bears music, but a must for hilarious yet touching fabulousness are the Kinsey Sicks. More about gay music artists at OutMusic. Don't leave out the music, talk and more all thru the day on the Sirius satellite "radio" gay channel OutQ.

Some things I like to hear which are commercial but only slightly off mainstream and I wouldn't be without are Men w-o Hats, Amanda Lear, Nina Hagen, Klaus Nomi, Landscape, Vangelis, Ian Dury, a few cast albums such as "Flahooley", the soundtracks of the Marx Bros movies [I got a FR import 3cd set out-of-print now], and more 'too numerous to list'. I've spent 10 times more on records, cd's and the stereo than my PC. So here are my top 10 Desert Island Discs, in no particular order:
Snuck in at an essential no. 11 - The Firesign Theatre: EVERYTHING YOU KNOW IS WRONG!
I have one Amanda Lear compilation CD and one CD single (you had to be there - where?) Plus a bunnh of LPs. And who could pick just 10, anyway? Well, I guess I'm caught in the 70's musically too! Some great stuff - and great variety, accounting for all the varied feelings toward the 70's music. -David Bowie, Elton John, Fleetwood Mac, hey even Billy Joel [Turnstiles], even most of the AM hits on "Have a Nice Day" esp VOLS no. 1-14 or so. Don't forget ABBA. And classic ol Disco..from Silver Convention and Theo Vanness -As Long As It's Love, a lot of Donna Summer, Village People, Midnight Rythym [Climb, Rushin to meet You], to Cerrone -Trippin' on the Moon-.
Maybe Lou Reed -Transformer- for Eldorado, in my top 10. Stuck down there on that ol' island, I'd scounge for some country cuts to life my spirits
after the necessities and furry company are found, from Jimmy Buffet, the Bellamy Brothers, Juice Newton, a little David Allan Coe, and to make my own concert for NY Simon and Garfunkel like Homeward Bound, and Only Living Boy in New York among many others possible.
BTW - - 1998 record sales (Soundscan) -Titanic soundtrack no1, Celine Dion "Let's Talk About Love " no. 2, followed by 'albums' by 3. Backstreet Boys, 4. Shania Twain, 5. 'N Sync, 6. City of Angels soundtrack, 7. Garth Brooks' Double Live, 8. Will Smith's Big Willie Style, 9. Savage Garden, 10. Armegeddon soundtrac.
