An Open Letter To Ann From A Reader

Subject: Title: An Open Letter to Ann Coulter

Dear Ms. Coulter,

I find your hypocrisy laughable. You always complain, in your interviews and writings, that the "liberals" (an amorphous, ominous term that you use for anyone who doesn't agree with you) are only interested in name-calling and silencing the conservative Right. However, it is you who constantly insult people, and constantly degrade others for not thinking and acting just like you. Your intolerance of others simply demonstrates how little you know of human psychology, sociology, or the basic concept of the human condition. Part of being an intelligent, forward-thinking, tolerant individual is possessing the understanding that not everyone thinks or acts like you, and that is okay.

You are welcome to believe and act however you please, as long as it does not directly hurt others. I don't care; believe that GWB is God and Rush Limbaugh is the Holy Spirit. What you cannot do is expect others to adopt and agree with what you think. What, in the name of all that's sacred, makes you think that you and your beliefs are correct? Are we going with age and numbers, here? If so, Buddhism, Taoism, Hinduism, etc. have been around for far longer than Christianity, and have many more members. The fact that you would be so arrogant to assume that you: A) know what "God" wants; and B) choose to tell others that their beliefs are wrong; shows how ignorant you are. You condemn others when you don't know the first thing about them or how they live. You personify the type of thinking that I cannot stand: "it's different, therefore it's scary and wrong". You hate Muslims, but do you know anything, anything about them, their religious practices, or their beliefs? No. You do not even try to understand. You just know they are different from you, and therefore, that's something to be hated by you.

Ann, you take a tiny percentage from a population--who happened to commit a heinous and atrocious act--and you blame the entire culture for their misdeeds. Just because a handful of Muslims flew planes into buildings, this means they all must be bad, and they should be carpet-bombed, right? According to you, yes. Christianity has had its fair share of religious zealotry, or have you forgotten? So much blood has been shed throughout history in the name of the Christian God that I do not even know where to begin. A modern-day example? Abortion-clinic bombers. Their acts are disgusting, violent extremities which personify the very lowest of the human countenance. However, I do not see the entire Christian population as evil because of their acts, and so you should not with Muslims, or any other culture that's different from yours.

So who is "right" and who is "wrong"? The answer? No one. There is no "right" and "wrong" when it comes to religion. There is only difference. That is something that you will never understand.

I am not even going to begin dissecting the ignorance and hypocrisy of your political beliefs, here. Perhaps that will be another letter. If you had your way, the world would be a sorry place. It would be full of intolerance, hatred, violence, fear, guns, and death. Here is to your crusade against anything not Christian, Ann: may it never succeed.

Sincerely,
Nikki Le Fevre
