"Mercutio pokes fun at Romeo":
Mercutio's jesting at this point becomes a bit crude, which should offer
up some potentially wonderful classroom discussions. Go ahead. Put your teacher
on the spot. Ask what Mercutio means when he discusses the "demesnes" that
lies adjacent to Rosaline's thigh. While you are at it, ask why Rosaline's
thigh would be "quivering." And, for some real fun, tell your teacher you
spotted a poetic metaphor having to do with "an open etc." and a "pop'ring
pear" and a "medlar fruit." This should hurry the play along.
