BASIC HUNTER EDUCATION COURSE

All first time applicants for hunting licenses in the Commonwealth are required to be graduates of this course. The course is sponsored by the Massachusetts Division of Fisheries & Wildlife and is free of charge.

Graduates are presented a certificate from the Commonwealth which is valid in all 50 states, Canada and Mexico.

The primary instructor at Sippican will be William Jones. Seating is limited and early registration is required.

NRA HOME FIREARM SAFETY COURSE

Date: TBA

Course objective: To teach the basic knowledge and skills and to explain the attitude necessary for the safe handling and storage of guns in the home.

Length: 4 hours

Course Content:

Rules for safe gun handling
Identifying and unloading different firearms
Practical exercises in safe gun handling
Types of ammunition; cleaning and storage of firearms

Course objective: To teach the basic knowledge, skills and attitude necessary for owning and using a pistol safely.

Length: 14 hours

Course content:

Pistol knowledge and safe gun handing
Ammunition knowledge and the fundamentals of pistol shooting
Firing the first shots
Two handed and one handed standing positions

Course objective: To teach the basic knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary for the safe use of a rifle in target shooting.

Length: 14 hours

Course content:

Rifle knowledge and safe gun handling
Ammunition knowledge and the fundamentals of rifle shooting
Firing the first shots
Standing rifle positions
Prone and kneeling rifle shooting positions
Sitting rifle shooting position and review of positions
Rifle sports and activities

Course objective: To teach the basic knowledge, skills and attitude necessary for the safe and proper use of a shotgun in shooting a moving target.

Ammunition knowledge and the fundamentals of shotgun shooting
Firing the first shots
Shotgun shooting skills practical exercise
Shotgun games and activities

NRA PERSONAL PROTECTION PROGRAM

Course objective: To teach the basic knowledge, skills and attitude necessary for the safe and proper use of a handgun and provide information on the citizen’s right of self defense.

Length: 12 hours

Course content:

Handgun knowledge and safe handling
Ammunition knowledge and the fundamentals of handgun shooting
Firing the first shots
Handgun shooting positions
Firearms and the law
Avoiding criminal attack and controlling a violent confrontation

Pre-registration and a nonrefundable deposit of $60. Along with a resume of your shooting experience is required no later than TBA  in order for you to qualify for this course.
