This is a listing of New England swing bands that I have personally heard
and can recommend wholeheartedly. If a band is not listed here, it does
not necessarily mean that I don't recommend them. It may only mean that
I haven't heard them before. In fact, I haven't heard that many live bands
in the New England area, so this is a limited list. However, I thought that
it might be useful to know at least a few good bands in the New England
area (I had a request for recommendations for a good swing band for a wedding
from an out-of-towner).
I should mention my musical bias so that you know the basis of my recommendations. I love the blues, rhythm and blues, boogie woogie, and 50's rock and roll. I don't particularly like big band music. I tend to favor bands that play a lot of blues and are either "down and dirty" and/or high energy. It should be clear that even a great big band music band probably won't get my recommendation since I don't like that type of music.
If you do contact one of these bands, please tell them how you heard about them. I would appreciate it. Thanks.
Note: If a band would like to be listed, please send me a demo CD or tape.
