Ave. Baisi Thai has been a staple of Oakbrook mall for several years already, and it's Chicago location opened recently (presumably at the top-level restaurant area; I haven't been to the Chicago one yet). The decor is trendy and fun; it deviates from the norm while keeping some traditional elements. The food is simple and good, though some may argue not "authentic enough." Prices are quite reasonable also. Recommendations: Mee Krob, Pad Thai noodles, Kao Soy noodles, Tofu with Vegetables Estimated price per person: $10-$15 Amarit840 N. State Street, Chicago, IL, (773) 000-0000 Hours: M-Th 12pm-10pm, F-Su 11am-11pm Access: CTA El Red Line @ Chicago; CTA Bus 39 (Broadway) Amarit claims to be the closest restaurant to the John Hancock Center and Water Tower Place, but with the recent opening of Baisi Thai on Michigan, that doesn't hold true anymore. Located on the street level of a high-rise residential building, Amarit has a homey atmosphere and serves quite good, authentic-style Thai food. Although I had a traumatic take-out experience after biting into the core of a very, very hot pepper, the food is not normally extremely spicy (it must have been just the first couple times I had it that it was spicy). The prices are moderate and the food good. Recommendations: Papaya Salad, Pad Kee Mao Estimated price per person: $10-$15 AmarindNorth Avenue, Oak Park, IL (630) 000-0000 Hours: M-Th 12pm-10pm, F-Su 11am-11pm Access: CTA Bus 72 (North Ave.) Amarind, as differentiated from Amarit, is a restaurant at the far border of Chicago and Oak Park on North Avenue. Occupying a building that had previously changed quite frequently, from what I've been told, the restaurant is quite small but the food really good. Although the dishes are also a little small, they are all very tasty and there are some dishes that cannot be found at other Thai restaurants, such as the (three something chicken). Recommendations: Pad Kee Mao, Etc. Estimated price per person: $10-$13 Coming Soon:Entries for Quang Noodle, Star of Siam, My Thai, Siam Kitchen, Thai O'Cha, P.S.
