St. Patrick School

Our Curriculum

At St. Patrick School, we constantly strive to keep our curriculum current.  The Diocese of Manchester has developed a curriculum that will serve as a comprehensive plan for all Catholic Schools within the Diocese. Teachers continually work to assure that our curriculum is current, meaningful, and challenging.

We believe we have a challenging curriculum that, in the elementary grades, provides a foundation of learning for success at the junior high level.  Our junior high curriculum focuses on preparation for success at one of the many quality Catholic or public high schools in our region.  Our non-textbook, full-day Kindergarten is developmentally based to prepare each child for the more formal learning of first grade.

Formal reading instruction begins in grade 1 and continues through grade 5.  Students through grade 4 are taught reading through a combination of phonics and quality literature.  In grades 6-8, students study various genre and writing styles in Literature class.  There is a mandatory summer reading list for students in grades 1-8.  Formal Math skills are taught beginning in first grade.  By 7th grade, students are immersed in a study of Algebra.  Religion class is taught daily in all grades.  Beginning in the first grade, students are taught Family Life for 6 weeks as part of their religion studies.  Family life is taught to all students, grades 1-8, in January.  Social Studies, Science, and Language Arts round out the curriculum for all students.  Writing Skills is a communications class taught daily to all grade 6-8 students.  Students in grades 6-8 also study current events.

In addition to the Core Curriculum, all students also have time scheduled for vocal music, art, gym class, library skills, and computers.  Students in grades 5-8 receive instruction in French as well.
