Stage Acts - May 2
Kid Merv Jazz Band
At one point as part of the act, Kid Merv sat at a table and played cards
while the rest of the band continued. I never did figure out what he was
trying to do.
Andrew Hall's Society Brass Band
Louis Ford and His New Orleans Dixieland Flares
Chris Clifton
Walter Payton and Snapbeans
Walter Payton was not actually with the band that day.
Ellen Smith again.
I think they said this guy's name was Chris Albert the Dogman.
Banu Gibson and Her New Orleans Hot Jazz
Fayard Nicholas. The Nicholas Brothers were a dance team from the thirties
and forties. They were featured in the movie Stormy Weather, which
was excerpted in
That's Entertainment! They also appeared in several
other movies, including The Big Broadcast of 1936, Sun Valley
Serenade, The Pirate, Orchestra Wives and Bonjour
Kathrin. Fayard won a Tony for choreography in 1989. The Nicholas Brothers
received Kennedy Center Honors in 1991. Fayard's brother Harold died
a few years ago.
Fayard didn't dance at Jazzfest (he's 87 years old), but he did sing.
