CLASS GOAL-  The goal of the Introduction to Firearms Safety and Marksman class is to provide beginning shooters with an introduction to the knowledge, skills and attitude necessary to own and use a handgun safely. This is the perfect class for beginners who need a solid foundation in firearm safety and the fundamentals of shooting.

LEVEL OF INSTRUCTION - The Introduction to Firearms Safety and Marksman class is designed for people with no previous firearms experience. Experienced shooters who need a refresher class or a certificate of completion, diploma, for a Permit are welcome.

NO ACTUAL SHOOTING - It is not necessary to go to the shooting range in order to qualify for a permit to carry a concealed handgun.  There is an optional range session available.

PREREQUISITES - There are NO prerequisites to the class except that you can legally handle firearms.  You do not have to do anything to be ready for class.  You are "ready" now!

LOCATION Class is conducted in a meeting room at a Richmond hotel.

DURATION – The class lasts approximately 4-hours.  The clock does not dictate the end of class.

DIPLOMA – Upon completion of the class you will receive a diploma suitable for framing on the day of the class – no waiting.  The certificate is used to apply for your Concealed Carry Permit.

THE LAW – Completion of the Introduction to Firearms Safety and Marksman class satisfies the training requirements of Virginia Code Sections 18.2-308.02(B) and 18.2-308.06(B) to obtain a Virginia resident or nonresident Permit to Carry a Concealed Handgun (CHP aka "CCW").

NOTE TO EXPERIENCED SHOOTERS - The Intro class is the easiest and most economical class for an experienced shooter to meet the education requirement for a Virginia Permit to Carry a Concealed Handgun (CHP).  There are no low-cost advanced classes anywhere in the country.  If you are an experienced shooter and just need to complete a class, what difference does the level of instruction make?  None!

QUICK LESSON - There are two kinds of handguns; revolvers and semi-automatics.  Within each kind are 3 different action types:  Single Action (SA or sometimes, SAO), Double Action (DA) and Double Action Only (DAO) for a total of 6 varieties.  The only true way to learn and understand how each works and is operated is to handle them in real time – in class. Be sure to enroll in a class where all six varieties of handguns are available for you to handle.  One advantage of taking the above class is that you will have an opportunity to work with one or more handguns to see which type (revolver or semi-automatic) and caliber matches your needs. Handguns available in the classroom include semi-automatic pistols (Single Action, Double Action and Double Action Only) and revolvers (Single Action, Double Action and Double Action Only) suitable for personal protection and target shooting in a variety of sizes, power and calibers:  .22, 9mm, .38 Special, .357 Magnum .45 ACP. The handguns used for class were manufactured by: Beretta, Glock, Kimber, Ruger, Sig Sauer, and Smith & Wesson.

OPTIONAL RANGE SESSION - Some beginners elect to follow up the class by participating in a supervised range session to practice the shooting fundamentals learned in class.   This consists of actual shooting at a local indoor range where you are coached by your instructor.  There is no additional tuition for this instruction, but the student will be required to pay fees for range time and any ammunition costs.  This optional range session does not have to be on the same day as the class.  All scheduling is done in class.

INDIVIDUAL TRAINING and one-on-one training are available by appointment.

ADVANCED TRAINING - If you are looking for intermediate or advanced training, let me know and we’ll get you into an appropriate class or schedule one-on-one training.
