Integrated Media Art Department Mission Statement
What do you want to say and how do you want to say it?
Learning the mode of production is a designer's specialty.
As the world countinues to become more visually integrated, designers
have become increasingly in demand. The deisgner/artist is responsible
for assimilating information, ideas and concepts and consumer packaging
and merchandising, signage, computer games, product graphics, logos, corporate
identities, promotions, newspapers, magazines books, web pages, and multi-media
presentations involve the communication skills of the designer.
Design education at the University of Bridgeport is defined by students
who have a passion for investigating ehat they want to say and how they
want to say it. Our program will offer you ample oppotunity to realize
this by way of a traditional liberal arts foundation, design courses
and an early introduction to digital technology. You will acquire the
tools and methods to express ideas effectively, to be a thinking, skilled
player in the communication revolution.
About our program
The world is engaged in a second renaissance for artistic communication
which our curriculum reflects. What makes our program unique is our emphasis
on collaboration and digital technology. Faculty and students collaborate
across disciplines and cultures and this interaction is reinforced with
digital technology. This interdisciplinary approach does not make a distriction
between the commercial and the artistic, but rather harnesses the strengths and
rewards of both. Understanding history and traditional media, new technologies
and their relationship to each other is fundamental to your success.
We integrate hands-on studio experience and design, so you can focus
simultraneously on media and digital studio arts. You will become a more creative
communicator through our carefully planned and well-rounded academic environment.
