Stuff about freedom of speech on the Internet
THE COMMUNICATIONS DECENCY ACT HAS BEEN DETERMINED TO BE
UNCONSTITUTIONAL!!
- Electronic Frontier Foundation
- The current attempt to legislate the electronic dissemination of information is
SERIOUS. I honor our First Amendment. The EFF has all the latest updates on what is
going on. Restricting the Net towards an undefinable "decency".
has broad and unpleasant implications the politicos are ignoring.
There's a LOT of misinformation out there -- there are
ETHICAL alternatives to protect children without this.
- If you are concerned and would like further info, try Voters
Telecomm Watch. Or Feminists for Free Expression.
Or the Citizen's Internet Empowerment Coalition,
whose class action suit I've unrepentantly joined.
- My own rant on the topic may appear someday. Or not, as
all the above seem to say it pretty well. Meanwhile, the CDA gives whole
new lowered dimensions to the term "politically correct". I support
Family Values -- the right of individual families to decide themselves what books,
TV, publications, and electronic information to read, watch, access, and
think about, without the assistance of "control freaks" deciding these things FOR them.
Note of course that the next step is to uphold the decision when the other side
takes it to the Supreme Court. The fight isn't over yet.
