Configuration

The account configuration utility works by writing your specific customer information into the *.ini files in the \internet\config subdirectory and then copying them to the application subdirectories.

Some versions of the kit, do not retain the set-up information in the fields. Each time the configuration utility is opened to change settings, it must be fully re-written.
(This is for security).

Verify that your customer information is entered correctly. (User name, host name and password are all case sensitive and user names are always lower case).
If the COM port number is not known, refer to Microsoft Diagnostics to locate the COM port on which the modem is installed.
If the COM port speed is not known, refer to Microsoft Diagnostics to determine the UART chip in use on the COM (modem) port and set the speed accordingly. (19,200 for an 8250 or 16540 UART and 38,400 for a 16550 UART should be safe settings).
This is the computer's port speed and not the modem speed.
If the modem is not listed in the "Modem Init String" selections, and the generic Hayes compatible initialization ATZ0 does not seem to work, try AT&F or look for a Modem Initialization String for the specific make and model of modem in use. This can be entered into the "Modem Init String" box and the account configuration utility re-run.
If the modem can not be identified, refer to Modems for help on creating an initialization string by trail and error. This can be entered into the "Modem Init String" box and the account configuration utility re-run.
Early versions of the kit, (before v 2.5), did not have provisions to alter the modem initialization string. You must edit changes to the string manually into the login script. Trumpet Winsock has a simple provision for you to edit the scripts under the "Dialer" + "Edit Scripts selection on its menu bar.
Search near the beggining of the file for the line which reads, "output AT modemstring \13" and make your entry here.
Verify that the phone number entered is correct for the calling location. (Dialing 1-508 or 1-617 to call a local access number is a common configuration error).
You can disable "Call-Waiting" by preceeding the telephone number with *70,
Re-configuring the account for some reason (such as changing an access phone number or modem initialization string) will overwrite all the ".ini" files in all the applications and return the settings to default.
Re-configuring will also overwrite any registration information contained in the ".ini" files and they should be moved out of their respective directories before running the configuration utility. (These files will have to be reconfigured manually).
