UltraNet Server Address Information
Addresses you need to configure third party Internet software for UltraNet Services.
Login Name
The name you are assigned to authenticate with UltraNet services when logging in to your account.
(Always in lower case. NO CAPITAL LETTERS!)
- Login: username@(realm)
Example: rflumere@ma
(realm = ma, ri, or nh depending on which UltraNet location you are dialing into.)

Domain
The place all of your communications will pass through on their way to and from the Internet.
(All in lower case and separated by a single period.)
- Domain: (realm).ultranet.com
Your IP Address
I.P. ALWAYS set for "Server Assigned" in your TCP/IP Software.
All accounts are now "Dynamic I.P." accounts which will be set up by the UltraNet server upon login.
Do not provide an I.P. (even if you have ownership of one), without consulting with UltraNet Tech Support. All hard routed or SLIP accounts, must contact Ultranet Tech Support for the appropriate configuration.
Your E-Mail Address
Needed so that others can send mail to you through UltraNet.
(All in lower case and separated by single periods.)
- E-Mail Address: username@(realm).ultranet.com
- If you have a hostname, (machine name, which used to be provided with "static" IP accounts), and would like to use it as part of your e-mail address.
(Hostnames are not provided with newer, "dynamic" IP accounts but can be an optional part of the e-mail address for those who do have them.)
E-Mail Address: username@optional_hostname.(realm).ultranet.com
Example: rflumere@fox.ma.ultranet.com
- If you have your own domain name.
E-Mail Address: username@optional_hostname.yourdomain.name
(realm = ma, ri, or nh depending on which UltraNet location you are dialing into.)
Domain Name Servers
DNS. These I.P. Addresses are required by all TCP/IP software in order to resolve names
into I.P. addresses for routing on the Internet.
You MUST SPECIFY the following addresses in the set-up screens of your TCP/IP software under
"Name Servers" or "DNS", in order for your Internet applications to function.

Mail and News Servers
You must specify these server names in the setup screens of your Internet applications in order for them to be able to gather and send mail and news.
(All in lower case and separated by single periods.)
- POP Server: pop.(realm).ultranet.com
(The incoming mail server.)
- POP Address: username@pop.(realm).ultranet.com
(Where you go to retrieve your mail.)
Example: rflumere@pop.ma.ultranet.com
- SMTP Server: smtp.(realm).ultranet.com
(Where you direct your outgoing mail.)
- News Server: news.(realm).ultranet.com
(Where you go to gather and send news group articles.)
Example: news.ma.ultranet.com
(realm = ma, ri, or nh depending on which UltraNet location you are dialing into.)
Gateway
GW. Gateway addresses are not required for standard, dialup, PPP accounts.
- Set to: 0.0.0.0 if you must make an entry.
All others (hard routed or SLIP accounts), must contact Ultranet Tech Support for the appropriate "gateway" I.P. Address.
Web Proxy
For those wishing to set up the proxies in their web browser.
Proxies should be set for Gopher, Wais and HTTP services.
Note that the proxy entries are optional. You may or may not get a performance improvement, depending upon your own usage habits. (Mileage may vary!)
- Proxy server: www-proxy.(realm).ultranet.com Port: 8000
