Windows 95 and UltraNet
The Windows 95 PPP Dialer
With the Windows 95 dialer, you can use the 32 bit versions of such programs as the
Netscape Navigator, WS-FTP and the MicroSoft Internet Explorer.
It's simple to install and it works great!
The UltraNet Tool Kit
Use the 16bit versions of Internet software.
Trumpet Winsock v2.0b is a 16bit TCP/IP "stack".
- Windows 95 may load its own copy of "winsock.dll" upon startup.
Because winsock.dll's from different sources cannot co-exist in memory, Trumpet Winsock will not load.
- If you want to use the UltraNet Tool Kit in this environment, it will be necessary to remove the TCP/IP protocol from the Network Properties Settings in the Control Panel.
- Rename any "winsock.dll" files except for the one in the kit's own winsock subdirectory and re-start Windows 95.
(This will also eliminate any conflicts with third party dialers such as the one supplied by CompuServe.)
