At its core, Burning Man is a kind of blank slate, upon which its participants are free to impose any kind of art or performance -- or mere entertainment -- that they fancy. Beyond that, it is a shared ordeal that creates a temporary alternative community in the midst of one of the most wildly beautiful and harshly demanding environments on Earth.
