Brewers entering beers into the World Beer Cup should carefully review the category and subcategory designations before registering their beer. It is imperative that beers are entered into the proper category and subcategory since judges evaluate beers on the basis of these category descriptions.
In an effort to eliminate the possibility of error, the World Beer Cup will fax a confirmation of your registration form for your final approval (signature) on February 9, 1998, but only if you provide a fax number on your registration form. Your signed confirmation form must be returned by fax to 1-(303) 697-2269 no later than February 17, 1998. Beer style categories are listed below, with links to complete descriptions.
It is the responsibility of each brewery to enter its beer in the appropriate category and subcategory. The World Beer Cup and the Association of Brewers staff cannot aid breweries in this decision. Information regarding the number of entrants for a particular category of the World Beer Cup will be made available at the Awards Ceremony on September 1, 1998 during the International Beer Executives Symposium in Rio de Janeiro.
Guidelines to Beer Style Categories and Subcategories
By Charlie PapazianThese beer style descriptions are guidelines meant to aid in the decision of which category and subcategory to enter beer. Judges will evaluate the beers using their senses of smell, sight, taste and mouthfeel against the standards put forth in these guidelines.
