Culled from a variety of period Japanese sources (from the 8th to the
15th centuries), with probably the best footnoting (in terms of source
material) that I have seen in any book of collected stories from
any period or location. (The down side: most of the stories are, well, I suppose
medieval Japanese nobility would find them, er, amusing, like the story
of the tapeworm that married a noble woman and...) [FS]
