BIOGRAPHY - short version for your program notes



Timothy Melbinger (b.1968) lives with his wife and children in Natick, Massachusetts. His music has been recorded on Centaur, Albany and Nine Winds Records. Performances throughout the United States have featured such ensembles as Speculum Musicae, Alea III, the Radius Ensemble and Auros Group for New Music, and soloists including Ingrid Gordon, Andrey Kasparov. His accolades include The Massachusetts Music Teachers Association Shepherd Distinguished Composer of the Year, Aaron Copland Award (Copland House residency), an SCI commission and a California Octagon Prize. He completed a Ph.D. in composition/theory on the music of Mel Powell at Brandeis University, where he studied with Martin Boykan, David Rakowski and Yehudi Wyner. He also holds degrees from the University of California at Irvine. He has taught a variety of courses at Harvard, Boston University, Brandeis, Providence College and currently  at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth.
