King Norodom Sihanouk and his wife Queen Monique are long time patrons of the classical dance.

Princess Bopha Devi, was herself a star of the dance. Here she is performing the Apsara dance.

Some dancers from the the early 20th century perform at Angkor Wat and at the Palace in Phnom Penh.

Modern day dancers perform at the Royal palace.

On the grounds of the Royal Temple in Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia, is the Silver Pagoda. The standing Buddha in the foreground was cast from 190 pounds of gold. The floor is tiled with silver. The traditional architecture features tiered spires and stylized serpents (nagas) trimming the yellow tiled roofs. The cluster to the left are the Royal Ballet and Reception halls. The Throne Hall is reserved for coronations. These crowns and swords are reserved for occasions of state.

December 29, 2003 - King Norodom Sihanouk reportedly will go to China on January 19 or 20 to receive medical treatment. According to news reports, the king suffers from liver disease and from a constricted blood vessel in the neck which could cause a stroke.
